UA Launches Largest Fund Raiser Ever: Campaign Arizona

The UA recently launched Campaign Arizona, the largest fund-raising campaign ever undertaken in the state.

President Peter Likins announced the Campaign's financial goal during a noon rally on the east lawn of Old Main. "We cannot be left behind," Dr. Likins said. "If we hope to compete with other public universities, we must raise the bar to secure more funding from both public and private sources."

"This Campaign is about more than raising money," UA President Dick Imwalle said. "It's about generating the resources necessary to transform the institution into one that is Foundation competitive with the top tier of public universities in the country. It's about confirming the global reach and influence of the University."

More than $485 million already has been committed to the Campaign. The five themes of the Campaign are: for learning through discovery; for a student-centered community; for better living; for global partnerships; and for energizing the economy.

The five Campaign co-chairs are: Karl Eller, chairman and CEO, Eller Media Company (Phoenix); Helen Lovaas, retired chairman of the board, Hudson RCI (Temecula, Calif.); Norman McClelland, chairman, Shamrock Foods Company (Phoenix); James E. Rogers, owner and president, Sunbelt Broadcasting (Las Vegas); and Melvin Zuckerman, chairman of the board, Canyon Ranch Health Resort (Tucson).

The UA Foundation also launched a Campaign web site: www.al.arizona.edu/campaz. The site shows goals, tracks progress, and includes stories on individuals and projects related to Campaign Arizona.
