Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition to Develop Arizona Cancer Plan

The Comprehensive Cancer Control Program is finally here! The comprehensive cancer control two-year planning effort in Arizona has culminated in a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the Arizona Department of Health Services to develop the Arizona Cancer Plan. Organizations that are working to create the plan include the American Cancer Society, the University of Arizona, the Arizona Cancer Center and the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.

The Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition, a partnership of public and private stakeholders, will be the lead body charged with the development of the plan, which is to be completed by January 2005. The plan development process includes the creation of workgroups which will focus on addressing the leading causes of cancer along the disease continuum, defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as prevention, early detection, treatment, rehabilitation and palliation.

Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition meetings will be held quarterly. To join the coalition and become part of the development of the Arizona Cancer Plan, contact Taira Kochar, Arizona Department of Health Services, (602) 542-2808, kochart@hs.state.az.us

The next Comprehensive Cancer Control Coalition meeting will be held Wednesday, June 2, 9 am - noon at The Flinn Foundation, 1802 N. Central Ave, Phoenix. RSVP to Taira Kochar by May 28, 2004 at kochart@hs.state.az.us
