Children's Research Center To Benefit from Borders Books

On Oct. 9, 10 and 11, the Tucson community can help improve children's health by buying books or music at Borders. During these three days, Borders will donate 15 percent of book and music sales to the Children's Research Center at UA. You must present a voucher at the time of purchase for the Children's Research Center to receive a donation. Please call Kate Jensen at 626-7217 to obtain a voucher or stop by the Pediatric administrative offices on UMC's third floor, across from the elevators.

AHSC United Way Kick Off Features Free Concert, Oct. 6

Lori Davidson and the Intruders, an acclaimed blues, jazz and R&B band, will kick off the AHSC United Way Campaign at a free concert at DuVal Auditorium, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A $2 lunch will be available (slice of pizza and a soda), with proceeds to benefit United Way. Those who make a donation by filling out and returning a pledge card at the event will be eligible for a variety of raffle prizes (including lunch for two at Le Bistro; $24 Kingfisher gift certificate; $20 UMC Gift Nook certificate, among many others). For the seventh consecutive year AHSC has joined forces for its annual United Way Campaign, Oct. 6-30. The AHSC United Way Team consists of the UA Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Pharmacy, University Medical Center and The University Physicians. Making a gift through United Way is an effective and convenient way to meet a variety of our community's most pressing needs.

UMC Program Seeks American Diabetes Month Volunteers, November

UMC's Diabetes Care for a Lifetime Program will be conducting foot screenings and providing diabetes education throughout Tucson during November in conjunction with the American Diabetes Association as part of American Diabetes Month. If you are an AHSC student or health professional (of any discipline) and would like to volunteer, please call 694-5072. Volunteers will be required to complete a brief training session.

Staff Development Day, Oct. 22

The second annual College of Medicine Staff Development Day is set for Thursday, Oct. 22, at AHSC. Sponsored by the College of Medicine Staff Advisory Committee, registration is open to all College of Medicine classified staff. Along with vendors and prizes, featured workshops will include integrative medicine, energy management, money management, information technology and personal protection.
