William A. Grana, MD, MPH, professor and head of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the College of Medicine, was named president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine at the Society's 2005 annual meeting in July. Dr. Grana joined the UA in May 2000 as head of orthopaedic surgery. He has received numerous grants for resident and fellow education and research and for development of a model lecture series for resident education in genetics, gene therapy and tissue engineering. Betsy Dokken, NP, MSN, CDE, has been appointed to a three-year term as associate editor for Diabetes Spectrum, a journal for health-care professionals published by the American Diabetes Association. Ms. Dokken currently is a PhD candidate in physiological sciences and a diabetes nurse practitioner with University Physicians Healthcare. Denise Fearing has been appointed director of the business office at UMC. She joined the office in 1990 and was appointed supervisor and later manager. She earned a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies at The University of Arizona while working full time. Ray Goellner has been appointed director of pharmacy services at UMC. He had served as the department's interim director for several months and, prior to that, as UMC's inpatient pharmacy manager. Lupe Obregón, administrative assistant in the Arizona Hispanic Center of Excellence, has been named Employee of the Month for the month of August by the AHSC Staff Advisory Committee.
