| The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center is proud to once again sponsor MEDCAMP -- a free, three-day summer health careers camp, now in its 16th year. MEDCAMP is designed for Arizona high school juniors and seniors considering a career in medicine, nursing, research or pharmacy.
Participation in MEDCAMP broadens students' understanding of health care as well as introducing them to the multiple challenges confronting the nation's health care system today. We use a broad curriculum that incorporates classroom teaching, laboratory experience, hospital tours, shadowing opportunities and dialog sessions. | |
 | Because our space is limited, we invite Arizona high schools to nominate one male and one female student who would benefit most from this type of experience. (Because of space limitations, not every student is selected. Selection is based on student essays and teacher recommendations.) Former MEDCAMP students or former or current Med-Start students are not eligible to apply.

All MEDCAMP students are housed in a UA student dormitory and are supervised by medical students. In the summer of 2008, MEDCAMP begins Monday evening, July 14 with check-in between 5 and 6 p.m. and continues for the next three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday), July 15, 16 and 17, 2008 about 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All activities are held on the UA campus. Students are expected to attend the entire program without exception and are not permitted to leave campus.
Nomination forms will be mailed to Arizona high schools in March. If you are a student interested in attending MEDCAMP this summer, alert your science teacher that you wish to be nominated by your school. A sample nomination form is below.
Each student nominee is asked to fill out an application and include a letter of recommendation from his/her science teacher. The MEDCAMP application deadline is April 19.
MEDCAMP gives students a unique learning opportunity and will prove to be a time for discovery, enrichment and challenge. For further information, please contact Loretta McKenzie or Katie Riley at (520) 626-7301.
