The University of Arizona Invites Public to Round-Table Symposium on
Terrorism Preparedness, April 25

The University of Arizona invites the public to a free round-table symposium, “Preparing a Nation: The Challenges of Terrorism Preparedness and Other Catastrophic Events,” Wednesday, April 25, noon to 4 p.m., DuVal Auditorium, University Medical Center, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.
The symposium is co-sponsored by the UA College of Nursing, the Arizona Center for Public Health Preparedness at the UA Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, and the Critical Response & Emergency Systems Training (CREST) program at the UA Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center.
Panelists include:
John S. Silva, MD, a physician and informatician, is a nationally recognized thought leader and researcher with more than 50 publications and books. He was responsible for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s (DARPA) bioterrorism information technology research and development and was the principal architect and manager of the revolutionary Cancer Informatics Infrastructure of the National Cancer Institute. He created and managed the information system that handled all the information for the Capitol Hill anthrax incident, after Sept. 11, 2001.
Edward Plaugher, fire chief of the Arlington County Virginia Fire Department and the incident commander at the Pentagon “Ground Zero” on Sept. 11, 2001.
Steve Wood, a terrorism and disaster-management expert and vice president, Consulting and Professional Services, Global Secure Systems.
Frank Walter, MD, FACEP, FACMT, FAACT, associate professor of emergency medicine at the UA Department of Emergency Medicine and expert in medical toxicology and hazardous materials.
Les Caid, state fire chief of the Rural Metro Fire Department. He served the Tucson Fire Department for 25 years and retired as a deputy chief and emergency manager for the City of Tucson.
