UA Surgeon Elected President of American Association of Endocrine Surgeons

Michael J. Demeure, MD, professor at The University of Arizona Department of Surgery, has been named president-elect of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons. AAES is the premier society for surgeons devoted to the treatment and study of patients with diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal glands and pancreas.

Dr. Demeure's term begins in April 2008 and lasts for one year.

Dr. Demeure received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He began his residency in general surgery at Hahnemann University Hospital then completed it at The University of Arizona. Following that, Dr. Demeure completed an endocrine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

In addition to his faculty appointment at the UA College of Medicine, Dr. Demeure is a senior investigator at the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) in Phoenix. His research includes efforts toward finding new treatments for adrenocortical carcinoma and pancreatic cancer, by focusing on the molecular genetics of these tumors to expose new vulnerabilities.
