A free lecture, open to the public, describing genetic and environmental factors involved in the increase in asthma during the past 30 years and explaining how asthma and other diseases may be prevented in the future through genetic research advances. Question and answer period follows. Part of the 2001 Faculty Community Lecture Series sponsored by the UA Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies.
SPEAKER: Fernando Martinez, MD, director, Arizona Respiratory Center, and UA Swift-McNear professor, pediatrics. His research interests include childhood asthma, the genetic epidemiology of asthma and related conditions, and the early development of the immune system as a risk factor for the development of asthma.
