Public invited to UA Mini-Medical School evening lecture series

The University of Arizona Health Sciences Center Mini-Medical School - a Wednesday evening lecture series for the public on medical topics - will kick off its fall session on Oct. 16 with a presentation on genomics by Walt Klimecki, PhD, of the Arizona Respiratory Center.
The Mini-Medical School is open to anyone with an interest in the health sciences. The lectures are by distinguished physicians and scientists of the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center. All lectures are held from 6 to 8 p.m. in Room 2117 of the UA College of Medicine, 1501 N. Campbell Ave.
The cost for the UA Mini-Medical School lecture series is $60 per person, which includes lecture notes and light refreshments. Parking is free.
The fall schedule is as follows:
- Oct. 16: Genomics and Beyond
Walt Klimecki, DVM., PhD, associate research scientist, Arizona Respiratory Center
- Oct. 23: Herbal Medicines
Lane Johnson, MD, MPH, clinical associate professor in family medicine and public health and author of the 2002 Pocket Guide to Herbal Remedies.
- Oct. 30: Memory and the Brain
Lee Ryan, PhD, assistant professor, UA Department of Psychology, Director of Cognition and Neuroimaging Laboratories
- Nov. 6: Organ Donation, Organ Transplants & Artificial Organs
Francisco Arabia, MD, associate professor of cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, UA College of Medicine and Co-Director, Artificial Heart Program.
- Nov. 13: Prevention of Heart Disease and Stroke
Gordon A. Ewy, MD, professor and chief of cardiology in the UA College of Medicine and director of the UA Sarver Heart Center
- Nov. 20: Arthritis and Osteoporosis
David Yocum, MD, professor and chief of the Section of Rheumatology and Immunology in the UA College of Medicine and director of the Arizona Arthritis Center
