Dr. Tabbaa comes to Tucson from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he was an assistant professor and director of pain management services at the MetroHealth Medical Center for 10 years.
Dr. Tabbaa began his medical career as a cardiothoracic surgeon but soon became interested in the treatment of pain. To that end he became board certified in anesthesiology in 1993. His particular areas of interest are cancer pain, chronic lower back pain, neuropathy and pain associated with sickle cell anemia.
"Pain management is a passion for me, especially after so many years in medicine. Helping patients find relief from their pain is the most rewarding work I've experienced as a physician," he said. "There are so many new therapies now available or just on the horizon offering hope."
In addition to his clinical practice as medical director of the Pain Management Clinic, Dr. Tabbaa will serve as Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology in the UA College of Medicine, teaching medical residents and conducting research.
