ABOR
and Phoenix sign deal on Phoenix Bioscience Center and downtown
educational campus
The Arizona Board of
Regents and the City of Phoenix signed an intergovernmental agreement
on Thurs., Feb. 5, that will allow the UA, ASU and NAU to begin
work on a bioscience center and educational campus in downtown Phoenix.
The agreement allows
the three state universities to renovate three existing buildings
and add new buildings on the campus of the former Phoenix Union
High School, located between Fifth and Seventh streets, north of
Van Buren Street. The site in adjacent to the new Translational
Genomics Research Institute (TGen), which is under construction
and projected for completion late this year.
The UA has committed
$17.2 million and ASU has allocated $10 million for the first new
building, which will be used for clinical research.

is for faculty, residency faculty, community preceptors, residents,
and students associated with the teaching programs at the AHSC Phoenix
Campus.

Campus Faculty Forum, March 4
The AHSC Phoenix Campus
will be holding a Faculty Forum on Thurs., March 4 from 3:30-5 p.m.
at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 N. 44th St. Immediately following
the meeting there will be a community reception to welcome the new
Dean for the UA College of Medicine Dr. Keith Joiner.
The meeting will involve
a question and answer session to learn about the developing downtown
Phoenix biomedical campus. UA President Peter Likins, Provost George
Davis, Vice President for Health Sciences Raymond Woosley, MD, PhD,
Jacqueline Chadwick, MD, and new UA College of Medicine Dean Keith
Joiner, MD, MPH, will be present to answer questions.

Andrew Weil to present at Health Sciences Lecture series in April

to the Integrative Medicine Lecture Series presented the Arizona
Health Sciences Center (AHSC) Phoenix Campus. World-renowned integrative
medicine expert Dr. Andrew Weil and experts from the University
of Arizona Program in Integrative Medicine will present at the three-evening
lecture program on Wednesdays, April 14, 21 and 28 at the Phoenix
Airport Marriott, 1101 North 44th St. in Phoenix from 6-8 p.m.
Presenters will discuss
Integrative Medicine Education; Integrative Approaches to Aging;
Alzheimer’s Research; Talking Frankly with your Doctor; and
Meaningful Aging.
The cost to
attend all three-evening lectures is $60.00 (not a tax deductible
donation according to IRS guidelines). Seating is limited and advanced

Spring Phoenix Faculty Meeting and Awards Presentation set for April
12
The annual Spring
Phoenix faculty Meeting and Awards Presentation will be held at
the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 N. 44th St. at 5:30 p.m. The
new UA College of Medicine Dean Keith Joiner, MD, MPH, will be attending
and presenting the awards with Associate VP for UA College of Medicine
Phoenix Campus Jacqueline Chadwick, MD.
Please note
that this meeting is separate from the March 4 Phoenix Campus Faculty
Forum. Reservations need to be made for both meetings. Invitations
for the Annual Spring Phoenix Faculty Meeting will be forthcoming.

Campus UA Mini-Medical School begins Feb. 18
Learn about biosciences
and medicine the fun way! Attend UA Mini-Medical School. No late-night
cramming, long exams or long hours with this school. Just bring
your curiosity, and sit back and enjoy fun and informative lectures
that cover ethics, aging, public health and infectious diseases,
disorders of the mind and issues of death and dying.
This popular
evening lecture series is taking registration for its spring session,
which begins on Wed., Feb. 18 and runs for five weeks. All lectures
are held from 6-8 p.m. at the Arizona Health Sciences Center Phoenix
Campus, 4001 N. Third St., Suite 415. Early registration is recommended
