Welcome new medical students to the UA College of Medicine - Phoenix Campus! Orientation Day, July 1

The UA College of Medicine - Phoenix Campus will welcome 35 third- and fourth-year medical students to the campus on Thurs., July 1. The campus will host Medical Student Orientation to Year III in the videoconference room of suite 415.

The orientation will begin with a videoconference with Tucson and a welcome from Dr. Keith Joiner, dean, College of Medicine and Dr. Jacqueline Chadwick, vice dean, College of Medicine Phoenix campus. Students begin their clinical rotations in Phoenix on July 6.

Donor support helps begin inaugural Maricopa Med-Start

The inaugural Maricopa Med-Start began on Sun., June 20 with 12 students from Maricopa County taking an intensive five-week program to learn first-hand what it takes to become a health care professional. Private donations totaling over $25,000 helped bring the 35-year-old Tucson program to Maricopa County.

Thanks to the corporations, foundations and individuals who were kind enough to support this year’s program. To date the program has received funding/pledges from: APS , Bill Carstens, the Bidstrup Foundation, Orchard Medical Consulting and the University of Arizona Foundation.

UAHS Phoenix campus to host National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine

The UA College of Medicine - Phoenix Campus will host 60 high school students from the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine on Wed., July 7 for a day of activities that will introduce the students to the medical profession.

The students will get invaluable instruction from UA College of Medicine faculty on various health topics, educational requirements, getting into medical school, becoming a doctor, and hands-on experience.

Held in cities across the United States, the National Youth Leadership Forum brings various professions to life, empowering outstanding young people with confidence to make well-informed career choices.

Register now for Phoenix UA Mini-Medical School

Learn about biosciences and medicine the fun way! Attend UA Mini-Medical School. No late-night cramming, long exams or long hours with this school. Just bring your curiosity, and sit back and enjoy fun and informative lectures that cover the respiratory system, genomics, biochemistry of disease, how your brain learns, the heart and cancer.

This popular evening lecture series is taking registration for its fall session, which begins on Wed., Sept. 1 and runs for seven weeks. All lectures are held from 6-8 p.m. at the Arizona Health Sciences Center Phoenix Campus, 4001 N. Third St., Suite 415. Early registration is recommended as seating is limited. Much of the work and updates to the upcoming changes to the College of Medicine curriculum will be conducted via e-mail and Web site.
