of South Carolina
Dr.
Linda Larson Carr, academic specialist for the AHSC Phoenix Campus,
presented a three-hour workshop on August 5 to 109 pharmacy preceptors
at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Dr. Carr’s
interactive presentation entitled “Evolving the Art of Clinical
Teaching” examined the context of clinical education, specifically
looking at the transition from novice to expert, the process of
learning, and how to enhance questioning and giving feedback. During
the second half, she presented a model of clinical teaching that
uses a 7-step approach to structure effective, short precepting
encounters and provided opportunities for small groups to apply
the guidelines to clinical cases. Dr. Carr’s presentation
