Planning
for new medical school campus continues
Multiple
groups are involved in major planning efforts for the College of
Medicine in both Tucson and Phoenix. A major redesign of the curriculum
is well underway. Plans for the downtown Phoenix campus of the College
of Medicine are moving forward quickly. Specific plans for renovation
of the Phoenix Union High School buildings are close to completion
and planning for the joint UA-ASU research building (ABC –
Arizona Biomedical Collaborative) is in progress. In addition, the
Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) will be conducting
a site visit for the re-accreditation of the medical school –
January 2006. There is tremendous support from the mayor of Phoenix,
the Arizona Board of Regents and the presidents of UA and ASU for
the full four-year Phoenix campus. ASU faculty is involved, not
only in the collaborative research efforts for ABC, but also in
partnering on the basic science teaching of the new curriculum.
Stay tuned for more details as plans gel.
